The temperature during the year cans vary between 22° and 37° Celsius degrees. The rain season begins in January and goes until end April. The rest of the year is very dry, what influences the lagoon’s level of water. The most part of the lagoons have no water during the dry season (between October and February).

Route and duration

Day 1 - São Luís / Barreirinhas

Departure in the morning between 06:30 and 07:40 on a 30-seat air-conditioned tourist minibus. We will travel approximately 270 km on paved roads to reach the city of Barreirinhas, one of the main gateways to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Arrival in the city is expected between 12:20 and 12:50.
Note: Seat allocation is random. For those seeking more comfort, a private vehicle can be requested for an additional fee.

At 2:00 PM, after checking into the hotel, departure for an unforgettable tour in a non-air-conditioned 4x4 jeep. We'll cross the scenic Rio Preguiças and follow a sandy trail leading to the entrance of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. From there, we begin a hike across the breathtaking white sand dunes toward the stunning Laguna Bonita. In this natural paradise, you’ll have the chance to swim in refreshing, crystal-clear lagoons nestled among the vast dunes. These lagoons are formed by rainfall between February and June, creating vibrant green and blue pools, some reaching depths of up to 4 meters.
The landscape is constantly changing: strong winds, especially in the second half of the year, shift the dunes by up to 20 meters annually, making every visit unique.
Return to the city after 7:00 PM, following an unforgettable sunset over the dunes.

Day 2 - Barreirinhas / São Luis

Breakfast at the hotel and departure in the morning at 8:30 am (the check-out should happens before departure for the excursion, but you can let your baggage at the reception) to the port in Barreirinhas, set out in motorboat down Rio Preguiça towards the ocean.
The first stop is in the Vassouras region to visit the Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses and see local fauna in the monkey tent known as “tenda dos macacos”; second stop is in the village called Mandacarú, a small fishing village where you can to appreciate various craft shops, the best caipirinha in the region at the kiosk on the pier and if accessible, you can climb up the light house called “Farol Preguiças” navy lighthouse to enjoy an enchanting panorama that embraces the entire mouth of the river and part of the National Park of Lencois Maranhenses; finally arriving at Caburé beach to eat lunch (not included in price) and swim in the river or sea.

Return to city after 3:00 pm.

About 4:20 pm a transfer in an air-conditioned mini-bus or bus up to 30 seats will bring you back to São Luís; trip duration 5 hours.
The arrival is estimated for 9:30 pm.

Extra information

During the drought season, between October and February, the water level of the lagoons of the Lençóis Maranhenses decreases and most of them are completely dry.
Do not forget the sun block, the hat, the cap, the sunglasses and of course the swimsuit.
In the small towns and villages along the route, there are no currency exchange offices. Therefore, we recommend obtaining a sufficient amount of local currency in the main cities. However, please note that credit card payments are generally accepted everywhere, even for small amounts.
Brasil Planet has no constraints with the restaurants envisaged for the route, which are chosen by drivers and guides for logistical reasons and to offer a good quality at reasonable prices. Therefore, it remains at the discretion of the client whether to accept or to prefer, when available, another restaurant nearby.
Brasil Planet is not responsible for objects forgotten in hotels or inside the vehicles.
We do not cancel tours due to weather conditions.

General Terms and Conditions of Contract

Alterations

Once the itinerary has been finalized and confirmed, and the travel documents have been sent, any subsequent modifications will incur an additional cost.
We cannot change the schedules of transportation or excursions during the execution of the trip, as our services are booked in advance, and any subsequent alterations will require the booking and payment of a new service.

Cancellations and Refunds
In case of trip cancellation, Brasil Planet will apply a penalty in accordance with Embratur regulation (Ministry of Tourism) no. 161 of August 9, 1985. The penalties are calculated on the total cost of the tour as follows:

20% penalty for cancellations made up to 30 days before the start of the trip.
30% penalty for cancellations made between 29 and 21 days before the start of the trip.
50% penalty for cancellations made between 20 and 7 days before the start of the trip.
100% penalty for cancellations made less than 7 days before the start of the trip.
No refunds will be provided for services you choose to cancel after the trip has started.
For trips booked during the Carnival and New Year periods, no refunds will be given.
